Former Army Chief General Bipin Rawat who died in chopper crash in Tamil Nadu

BIPIN RAWAT Former Indian Army Chief Was The Man of Words.

Bipin Rawat, real name Bipin Laxman Rawat, the former Indian Army Chief, the serving Chief of Defence Staff(CDS) was a man with impeccable credentials.

A four-star general Rawat (63) among with his wife Madhulika Rawat, and 11 officials onboard the Indian Air Force Mi-17v5 chopper had died in the crash in Tamil Nadu on December 30. Rawat the gem of the Indian Army rendered a loss that cannot be compensated.

Rawat had earlier in 2015 had a beaten the death call when he survived in the helicopter crash in Nagaland in 2015.

When General Dalbir Singh Suhag was to retire on December 17, 2016, General Rawat took over as Chief of Army Staff (COAS).

Rawat was the first CDS, had served in northern and eastern commands as Brigade Commander, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-C) Southern Command, General Staff Officer Grade 2 at the Military Operations Directorate, Colonel Military Secretary and Deputy Military Secretary in the Military Secretary’s Branch and Senior Instructor in the Junior Command Wing. His career had no controversy of any sort though he earned criticism when taking initiates for the Armymen.

He had the experience of high-altitude warfare. In 1978, Rawat was commissioned into the Indian Army and even his father was also in the fifth battalion of 11 Gorkha Rifles. He carried on the legacy of his father.

Rawat was also decorated with the Uttam Yudh Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Yudh Seva Medal, Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Sena Medal, and Vishisht Seva Medal.

Rawat who was born in Pauri district in the northern state of Uttarakhand, had family roots in the Indian Army as his father Laxman Singh Rawat too had served as the Lieutenant General in the army.

Do you know that Rawat was one of the distinguished officers who wiped out militancy in the Northeast? His cross-border operation into Myanmar had made the NSCN-K militants bite the dust. He had then earned accolades across the world.

You will be surprised to know that Rawat was also an honorary General of the Nepalese Army and he was the only officer who attended the Command and General Staff Course at Fort Leavenworth, USA.

A decorated military man Rawat, who was the alumnus of national defense academy Khadakwasla, Indian Military Academy Dehradun, St. Edward school Shimla, was instrumental in launching a surgical strike in which the Indian Army had gone into Pakistan occupied Kashmir and killed the enemies.

Apart from completing research on military media strategic studies, this General of the Indian Army had a diploma in Management and a diploma in Computer Studies. 

Some Major Achievement of General Rawat

Rawat being the CDS taken major initiatives. Under this leadership, the Indian Army took strict measures against Pakistan and even the Balakot strike in February 2019 is the prominent achievement of Rawat. Rawat gave free hand to the Indian Army against the repeated ceasefire by Pakistan by retaliating in motion.

Though India relations with China remained sour General Rawat conducted several meetings, joint exercises of the Indian Army with the Chinese Army to calm down the heated floor on both sides. It was as Rawat’s professional skill managed the Doklam standoff between China and India.

Meanwhile, the Myanmar strike is the one everyone remembers how he wiped out militancy in the Northeast in 2015.

Rawat Being Army Chief Shaped Indian Army the Way No One Ever Could

Before becoming the Army Chief, Rawat served as vice chief from September 1, 2016, to December 31, 2016. Many would-be unaware that Rawat was the fourth person from Gorkha Brigade to become the COAS.  

The day Rawat had become chief of the Indian Army, he left no stone unturned to make the Indian Army loaded with sophisticated weapons and tonnes of welfare schemes for the soldiers barring ranks. When the Indian Army was dressed with assault rifles from the US, Rawat earned praise from soldiers.

He modernized the Indian Army the way that a jawan to a top officer, everyone must get his/her due in all respects. 

Bipin Rawat and Madhulika were survived by two daughters Kritika and Tarini. Madhulika was the president of the Army Wives Welfare Association (AWA.) She worked for the welfare of soldiers and even took initiatives for cancer patients.
